Recorder Take Home Policy
October 10, 2011
The 4th and 5th grade students have begun and continued studying the recorder in general music class. We are coming along very well since we first began a few weeks ago. I would like to take this time to explain the recorder take home policy that will be in effect this year.
Each day, when your child comes to music, he or she receives 5 participation points based on having their recorder, how much they pay attention and participate in playing their recorder. Since this is one of our main activities in music class, a student who does not have their recorder will only be able to participate minimally in class (i.e. they will be able to follow along, but not able to practice). Therefore, if a child chooses to take their recorder home and does not have it for the following music class, they will lose 1 participation point for that day. They can still earn 4 points by participating and following along without their recorder. Should this happen once or twice, it will not affect your child’s grade. However, if it becomes a problem, your child’s grade will suffer.
Your child is NOT REQUIRED to take home their recorder to practice, so please consider carefully with your child whether they are responsible enough to be prepared for each music class (every three days).
When this form has been returned signed, you’re child may choose to begin taking their recorder home.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thank You,
Mrs. Lewis

I understand that if my child chooses to take his/her recorder home, it is their responsibility to bring it to school each day that music is scheduled (every third day). I further understand that my child’s grade could be affected my repeated music classes without their recorder.
