January News

Dear Parents,

We began this month by learning all about pets.  We learned that having a pet is a big responsibility.  We found out that pets need people, and people need animals.

Farm Animals

We then began working on our “On the Farm” unit.  To introduce the unit we discussed the story of “The Gingerbread Man”.  The children did a super job with this story.  We did some story sequencing, rhyming, discussed the story structure, characters, setting and so much more.  Please ask your child to tell you the story!  We had lots of fun making real gingerbread men and putting them in the oven to cook.  When we opened the oven door to take them out, they ran away!   It took us a while to follow the clues, but we finally found them hiding in the office.

For math, we made a graph showing what part of the gingerbread man we would bite off first if we were the fox.  The children really enjoy learning about farm animals.

We will end the month learning all about Zoo Animals!

Reminders

*Library Day is Wednesday.  The children must return their old book if they want to check a new one out.

*Please return your child’s reading folders back to school as soon as they have read their book.  We will begin sending home bedtime reading books more often, so they will need to have returned their old ones first.

*The children are doing a great job remembering their snow clothes.  Some are still having a difficult time tying their shoes and putting on their boots.  Please practice this at home if they need extra help.
