Art Room Policies
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Tardies: Students are expected to be in the classroom at the sound of the bell. Students who arrive after the bell must have a written/verbal excuse from the office or another teacher. Students in 6th. grade who accrue two unexcused tardies, and 7th./8th. grade students who accrue three unexcused tardies, will serve a detention. The student will be asked to phone home from the classroom to inform a parent, and will receive a detention slip. This slip must be signed by a parent and returned to me on the day the detention is served. Detentions must be served within three school days from the date they are issued.*
Late Work: It is important to develop responsible work habits. Deadlines are an expectation in every work situation. Towards that end, any work that is turned in late will decrease by 25% for each class period that it is late. Due dates are announced well in advance. Verbal reminders are given, as well.
Those students who have sketchbook assignments: All due dates are printed at the top of the sketchbook assignment sheets that are distributed at the beginning of each quarter. (Additional copies are always available in the classroom.) In addition, verbal reminders are given and due dates are written on the board.
Food: No gum, candy, water bottles or food of any kind is to be brought into the art room. Lunch periods are provided for all students. Gum that is discarded is oftentimes stuck to the bottoms of tables and chairs, creating a health hazard for all. Water bottles pose a unique hazard in the art room, since most of the work we create is made of paper. One accidental spill could ruin hours of work. During hot weather and/or for health reasons, students are allowed to leave the room to get drinks of water as needed. Detentions will be issued for repeated infractions.*
The art room policies and expectations are in alignment with district policy and middle school expectations. They are meant to create a consistent environment of appropriate and responsible behavior. Your support towards that end is appreciated.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions regarding any of these policies, please contact me at: (414) 482-8477, between 7:30-8:00a.m.
*Note: Due to the fact that I will not be in the building after 11:30a.m. this year, detentions will need to be served either from 7:30-8:00a.m. in the art room or, in the office during the student's lunch hour.
