Genres

Understanding genres in literature provides the understanding necessary in the book selection process.  By knowing characteristics of a particular genre, one is more able to choose a book according to his/her likes and dislikes.  Imagine for a moment going into your favorite bookstore; finding that perfect book for you is now that much easier!

Genres are categories in which a novel may be characterized.  For example, certain characteristics and qualities determine a novel's genre.  By understanding genres, a reader can seek and determine books by his/her interests and understand what components make up a particular type of writing.  Please enjoy the following Powerpoint explaining the genres in which we will study in the 6th grade.

Thank you.

Academically Yours,

Ms. Krall
