Academic Lab

  September 2, 2011

 Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year.  Your child has been assigned to the Academic Lab for the first semester.  The goal of Academic Lab is to provide students who struggled during their last semester of sixth or seventh grade, or students who experienced success only with extra help, a daily support class to improve their motivation, investment in learning and overall academic achievement. Student placement in the lab will be evaluated at the end of the semester.  Students who meet exit requirements will be moved to a regular study hall with your consent.

I have a master’s degree in At-Risk Education and am excited to be the Academic Lab instructor.  The class meets for 50 minutes daily.  Academic Lab provides varying types of support to the students.  Each day, the students and I will check if homework was completed the previous day.  There will be individual incentives to help students stay on track.  We will also make sure agendas are properly completed.  We will work on necessary study skills as well as complete some reading and math enrichment activities.  Students will also be able to work on assignments during Lab.  Any work not finished in school will be expected to be completed at home.

Please use the Deer Creek Chargers Website to check daily homework.  You can access homework charts by going to www.dcchargers.org  click on the 7th grade link and then my name in the top right-hand corner.  There is a link to 7th grade and 8th grade assignments.

I am a firm believer that by working together, we can help your child be successful.  Please complete the survey sheet.  The contact information on the bottom is very important.  Email is an excellent way for me to communicate with you if you have access.  My email at school is sclarey@sfsd.k12.wi.us.  My classroom phone is 414-482-8471.

Please let me know if you have any questions of concerns!

Mrs. Clarey
