St. Francis High School offers classes in computer programming and computer networking. In the computer programming classes, students work through Alice, a graphical 3-Dimensional program, that introduces students to object-oriented programming. Next, they are exposed to another graphical program called Greenfoot. Finally, students work in the Java programming language. Students have the opportunity to take AP Computer Science, which is in Java. The AP test takes place in early May and students can earn credits towards college depending on their score.
In the computer networking classes, St. Francis High School uses the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum. A preview of the curriculum and more information can be found at http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/get_involved/index.html. Students can take these classes to prepare for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) industry certification. This is a valuable industry certification in the area of computer networking. Students also can apply for an intern position in our school's IT department.
