Profesora del español 1 y 3 Email Phone: 414-747-3667 ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español 1 y 3! (Welcome to Spanish 1 and 3!) Estoy emocionada (I am excited) for the opportunity to conocerles (get to know you) and looking forward to a happy and productive año escolar (school year)!
I have been teaching for ocho años (eight years). I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. While studying in Oshkosh, I lived abroad for a semestre (semester) in León, Spain where I learned a great deal about Spanish language and cultura (culture). It was one of the best experiencias (experiences) of my life because I did it on my own and became a much stronger person because of it. Upon graduating, I got a job teaching Spanish at both the middle and high school level for the School District of Wisconsin Dells. This was a great opportunity for me to help build a Spanish program in a rural district. I very much enjoyed my time teaching in the Waterpark Capital of the World, but life pulled me in another direction half-way through my first year teaching. I reconnected with my now esposo (husband) who is originally from Bogotá, Colombia. He needed to return to Colombia, and so I finished out my school year in the Dells and took a leap of faith to move to Bogotá for amor (love)! It was probably the best decisión (decision) of my life! I lived there for two and a half years and taught inglés (English) as a foreign language for a private school called Gimnasio los Andes. I had an amazing time improving my Spanish and being immersed in the rich culture that is Colombia! Even though I loved Colombia, I was starting to miss my family and so we decided to take our chances back in los Estados Unidos (the United States). Upon returning in January 2014, I did two long-term substitute teaching assignments in Franklin and Racine as well as a full year at Universal Academy for the College Bound! This is currently my sixth year teaching at St. Francis High School and I am happy to be here! As far as intereses (interests) go, I love both American football and soccer! Go Packers and la Selección Colombia (the Colombian National Team)! I also enjoy reading, working out and spending time with my familia y amigos (family and friends). Last but not least, I had twins in May of 2019 and their names are Hazel and Javier! They are a lot of work, but they are worth it because they are adorable!
As a department, we will help students to develop and demonstrate the four modes of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Your child will be able to make comparisons between Spanish and English and appreciate Hispanic cultural practices in both los Estados Unidos and beyond. At the end of each course students will be capable of the "5 C's" in Spanish: communication, comparisons, communities, connections and culture.
My objective as a teacher is to help students work to their full potential and achieve high standards. It is very important that students work in class and at home consistently in order to ensure maximum learning during the school year. Parents, I would love to invite you to participate in your child's education process. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. I may be reached by phone either before or after school or via email anytime. I am so happy to be working with you this year! Thank you for your support.
