Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Related to STOPIt
Access the STOPit website
1. How do I access information about STOPIt?
Information will be shared with students in grades 4-12 through homeroom and classroom meetings. The specific information that will be beneficial for both students and parents is best accessed through the following video:
https://stopit.vids.io/videos/1c9bd0bc1c1be6c994/student-launch-video-elementary-version
Additionally, much more information can be found on the STOPIt website at http://stopitsolutions.com/.
2. What is the STOPIt tool intended for?
In general, this is a tool for students to be proactive in stopping behavior that is unkind or hurtful to others without worrying about "telling". Additionally, the tool can be used to report potentially dangerous behaviors such as using violence against other students or school buildings, the usage or distribution of alcohol or drugs, or for students who are contemplating harming themselves. Please note that the STOPIt application is a useful tool, but if a situation rises to an emergency, the use of the 911 system would be preferred to get the immediate help that is needed.
3. How will parents/students be able to access the STOPIt Application?
Students will be able to access the STOPIt application through their Chrome devices. Additionally, students and parents will be able to download the STOPIt APP through the Google Play Store or ITunes App Store. To access the app, please use the codes below when asked for that information:
Willow Glen: willowglen
Deer Creek: deercreek
High School: sfhs
Due to the fact that the application will be installed on Chrome devices, students will not be able to access the STOPIt application on their phones during the school day in line with District Policy. As always, if there is an immediate need to report an issue, students should report information to a trusted adult including teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, or administrators.
4. How will STOPIt reports be acknowledged?
Reports sent through the STOPIt application will be handled within a reasonable timeframe upon receipt. Should we receive a report during the overnight hours or on weekends, the administrator handling the report will take action immediately upon receiving it. In this situation, where an administrator may not see a report that was sent through the STOPIt application at midnight and the administrator may not see the report until 7 AM, you still have the ability to access help through the 911 system and should exercise this process especially if situations might involve possible violence or self-harm.
5. Should we use the STOPIt application to report inappropriate social media interactions that occur outside of the school day or are related to non-school activities?
Should there be situations of bullying/harassment, interpersonal conflict, or mentions of violent behaviors that are not related to the school community, you should contact the nearest police department to report such activities. If these non-school are reported through the STOPIt application, we would be acting as an intermediary to the Police department and could then delay a response to the situation.
6. Should the STOPIt application be used for situations of interpersonal conflict?
Inter-personal conflict is different than Bullying/Harassment. Interpersonal conflict is a disagreement or argument in which both sides express their views. Interpersonal conflict is fairly normal for people of all ages and in these types of situations our staff will work with students to assist them in building the skills to resolve conflict. Please report instances of interpersonal conflict to a teacher or administrator of the building.
Interpersonal conflict can turn into harassment/bullying if there is an ongoing issue that becomes one-sided and control turns from both parties having an ability to be a part of the solution to one person having the power or control over another person.
7. Should the STOPIt application be used for situations of harassment/bullying?
Harassment and Bullying are different than conflict, because the behavior is one-sided and one party has power or control over another through verbal, physical, or exclusionary tactics. These situations are best reported through a direct contact with the Building Administrator. Instances of harassment/bullying are taken very seriously and could also be reported through the STOPIt application. Please note that our goal is to extinguish these types of behaviors very quickly, thoroughly, and within Board policy, so reporting directly to the Building Administrator is a more effective way to ensure a personalized follow-through given that the STOPIt application is an anonymous reporting mechanism.
If the above-methods are unavailable to you, the concern may also be shared using the Report of Bullying form located here:
