Please call 747-3602 for all attendance concerns.
Absences: When a student is to be absent from school, the parent should telephone the school the day of the absence to inform the school of the reason for the absence. To be considered excused for classroom and grading purposes, the call must be made within one day of the absence. Calls can be recorded by the answering machine. If the absence is longer than one day, inform the attendance office of the length of the absence or call each morning. Students who are absent during the school day for illness will not be permitted to attend evening functions. Students accumulating more than 10 absences will need to present a doctor’s verification for any further absences to be considered excused.
Excused Absence Definitions:
· Personal illness or medical examination.
· Serious illness or death in family.
· Family emergency defined as a situation over which a student has no control and requires immediate action.
· A student has a contagious or infectious disease as defined by the St. Francis Health Department. He/she may return to school after receiving clearance from a physician or the school nurse.
Planned Absences: Parents must telephone the attendance clerk five school days before the proposed absence. It will be up to the student to get material that should be studied/completed before, during the absence, or upon return. If parents call to excuse their child for a doctor, dentist, etc. appointment, it must be done by 8:00 AM.
Absence During Exams:
· All exams will be given during the assigned exam time, unless cleared by the high school administration.
· A parent or legal guardian must notify the attendance office before the exam is held if a student will be absent due to illness. Appropriate documentation may be requested.
· Medical and dental appointments should be arranged after the exam period unless it's been approved by the high school administration.
· Make-up exams for absent students will be at the discretion of the teacher. These must be completed within a week of the scheduled exam. Office permission will be required.
Field Trips: Students are expected to have all work done upon their return when missing class due to a field trip. Tests/quizzes should be taken before the field trip or the day immediately following the field trip, unless arranged differently by the teacher.
Tardiness: Tardiness due to illness or a family emergency (maximum of 3), as defined above, will be excused if a telephone call is received from the parent/guardian prior to the student's arrival. Students who are tardy to school during 1st hour without a parent phone call will be considered unexcused and will be assigned a makeup period by the classroom teacher.
Truancy: When a student has been truant from school for a day or any part of the day, including study halls, he/she will be assigned makeup periods for the classes missed. Truancy is a violation of Wisconsin State Statute and against local St. Francis Ordinance. As a result, truancy is punishable by a citation. A parent may be cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allowing a student to be truant.
Leaving During The School Day: Students leaving during the regular school day must report to the office for a permit to leave school. Calls received after the student has left the building (without a permit to leave) will not be accepted. Students not following this procedure will be considered unexcused absent and subject to disciplinary measures. Students leaving during the day for illness will not be permitted to return to classes or attend evening functions. Calls for doctor appointments, etc. must be made prior to 8:00 AM.
Change of Name/Address: If a student moves during the course of the school year, it should be reported to the guidance office (747-3606), giving the new address and/or phone number, and the effective date of such change. Please notify the guidance office of change in name (students or parents).
